ALRESFORD ALLSORTS DRIVE OUT THURSDAY 13th JULY 2017

(Contributed by Robert Sloane)

The July ‘Drive Out’ to the Sparsholt Plough attracted another good turnout of ten cars, members and friends.

A big black cloud which had hovered ominously over Broad Street shortly before departure dispersed to give way to a fine evening.

Not many elected to follow the suggested route (‘nowhere to put your foot down’ – John Hankin) and instead arrived at The Plough from all points of the compass.

Early arrivals at The Plough discovered that the promised roped off area of the car park hadn’t materialised (the rope had gone missing) so took charge of the situation and commandeered a section of the car park that took their fancy. The ability to have all the cars together in one place is a distinct bonus when space allows it.

From that point on everything went swimmingly, although quite how the dining Allsorters ended up at the ‘riffraff’ end of the pub when tables at the ’select’ end had been reserved remains a mystery.

The Plough is noted for the excellence of its ales and fare and none was disappointed – especially those choosing the signature dish of Beef and Ale pie.

At the conclusion of a convivial evening it was suddenly time to go home. As the Allsorters left, the landlord remarked what a charming, erudite group we had been with nice table manners and no one attempting a runner. We were wished a safe journey home and an invitation to return again (by which time the rope would be found).    Many thanks to Robert for organising this drive out.
